Starmobile Icon: My Likes and Dislikes Review

The Starmobile Icon is the latest smartphone offering from local brand Starmobile. It hit the stores last week and there are reports of shortage of stocks. The phone is like the flagship Starmobile Knight in terms of design. Specs wise, the Starmobile Icon has pretty impressive specs despite its P7,990 pricetag – 4.5 inch screen, quad core processor, 8 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel rear camera, and running Android 4.1 Jellybean.

Here is a complete rundown of specs:

  • 1.2 GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage expandable via MicroSD  up to 32GB
  • 4.5 inch qHD LCD display (540 x960 pixels)
  • 8 megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and BSI (back side illumination)
  • Dragontrail Glass (scratch resistant)
  • 5 megapixel front facing camera with autofocus and BSI
  • dual sim, dual standby
  • 3G/HSDPA, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth, FM Radio
  • GPS with A-GPS support
  • 1,800 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1 Jellybean
  • SRP: P7,990

Likes:

  • Solid design – body has no cracks, creaking sounds or whatsoever. Its manageable with one hand use. Matte black back looks good too.
  • Screen – its qHD! Its bright, vibrant and gorgeous
  • Notification light – Just like the Starmobile Diamond V3 that I reviewed last week, the Icon has notification light. This is very useful because it notifies you if there’s a message or missed calls.
  • Smooth performance – The combination of the Quad Core processor and Android 4.1 Jellybean is just perfect. No lags, and smooth performance is evident.
  • Camera – Excellent camera! Pictures taken from the 8 megapixel camera looks very nice. But what I like most is the 5 megapixel camera for selfie shots. It has autofocus and BSI (back side illumination) for low light shots. Wow!

Dislike:

  • Battery – Actually its not an issue for me. But if you are a heavy user like you play games with your phone plus 3G and WiFi on, the 1,800 mAh battery will ran out of power easily. Since my WiFi is always turned on and do check Facebook, Twitter and Instagram a lot plus occasional calls and texts, battery lasted over a day with just normal use.

Only one dislike? Yes! The phone is perfect for me. Just the right size, good screen, amazing cameras, smooth performance and only P7,990. What can I ask for?
