Kata i2 Hands On and First Impressions

Kata is another newbie in the mobile phone business which is based in Hong Kong. So far, they have presence in Hong Kong, Indonesia and in the Philippines. They have been here for over a year already and about 2 months ago, they launched their first quad core smartphone – Kata i2. I was able to play around a unit days ago. Before I give out my impressions, here is a quick tour of the specs.

First Impressions:

Build Quality – Quite impressive. I think the phone’s main selling phone is its unique design. The phone is made entirely of plastic and but it deesn’t feel cheap. I actually like the color of the unit I played with. The white variant with matte finish is not commonly seen on a phone  its nice to see this combination on a smartphone. It makes the phone look elegant just like its design.

Display – The 5-inch screen only has qHD resolution so don’t expect full HD quality here. I think its understandable since its only P7,699. Good thing Kata used IPS panel on the display so viewing the display on extreme angles are still good.

Performance -This is Kata’s first quad core phone. During my time with it, I never encountered any lags. It was smooth through and through. Maybe because Kata opted to use vanilla Android with only few customizations.

Camera – It was surprising to see the 8 megapixel rear camera takes really good photos. I wasn’t able to take pictures and transfer it via Bluetooth but the pictures from the gallery are all clear and has good color with right amount of vibrancy.

Battery – Since I only has a limited time with it, I cannot say anything about its battery. But based on paper, the 2,200 mAh battery should be enough to last you through a day of moderate usage.

Verdict – IMPRESSED with the design and camera. Its rare to see a white variant and matte finish combination on a phone. For Kata’s first quad core phone, a two thumbs up!

  1. actually ang alam ko 32gb lang talaga at error lang yung 64gb and i saw it on other article but not here and about sa pricing…
introductory price ang 7,699 and would turn to it’s original price na 10k+
after the supplies ran out. ayun lang po

  2. Bought one last November in Owtel Starmall…super satisfied ako sa phone na ito. 7.7k ksama na screen prot at flip cover…i don’t see how it’s overpriced…andami jan na local at rebranded na mas mura pero ito lang ang nkita ko na may 16gb internal na sub 8k. swabe at walang lag even with Dead Trigger 2…performance nya is comparable to mid range big name brands. Tama rin c sir Mark, winner ang camera nito for an 8mp shooter..may problema lng minsan sa panorama mode..nag kkaroon ng weird pixelation between stitches pero d nman parati. Sana lang may bigger version cla nito maski 5.5 or 6″….ung i3 kc 5″ rin ata.
